The liability on manufacturers, repairers or retailers, is a potentially heavy one. It is imposed on them by the Liability for Defective Products Act 1991 and gives an injured party the right to bring a legal action for compensation without having to prove fault against any person involved in the production and distribution process of the product. The Act provides that ‘The Producer shall be liable in damages in tort for damage caused wholly or partly by a defect in his product’. Cover is most often provided in tandem with Public Liability cover.
To help protect your business, S.A. Faughnan (Brokers) Ltd. can provide small, medium and large businesses with products’ liability insurance in tandem with public liability insurance or on a standalone basis where products are sold on a larger scale or are higher risk.
